CAPA

l1The California Alliance of Paralegal Associations is a statewide non-profit, mutual benefit corporation dedicated to the advancement of the paralegal profession and the proposition that paralegals gain strength through alliance. SDPA is a member of CAPA and by extension, all SDPA members are automatically CAPA members.

STATE BAR OF CALIFORNIA

l3 The State Bar of California is by far the largest state bar in the country. Nearly 176,000 State Bar members actively practice law in California, while the rest retain their licenses as inactive members. Membership is mandatory for all attorneys who are licensed to practice law in California.

Created by the state legislature in 1927, the State Bar is a public corporation within the judicial branch of government, serving as an arm of the California Supreme Court. All State Bar members are officers of the court. Over the years, the State Bar has responded to the demands of a changing society, educating and informing both its members and the public.

NALA

nala1 The National Association of Legal Assistants is a national professional association for paralegals. As a non-profit organization, NALA provides continuing education and professional development programs for paralegals – from novice to experienced professionals, including its Certified Paralegal and Advanced Certified Paralegal designations.

AAFPE

afpe1 The American Association for Paralegal Educationis a national organization dedicated to promoting quality paralegal education. It publishes its magazine The Paralegal Educatorand newsletter AAfPE Bytes.

SAN DIEGO LAW LIBRARY

r_1 The San Diego County Law Library is open to the general public to learn about and use the law to solve problems, access justice and leverage opportunities. There are 4 locations around the county (Chula Vista, Downtown San Diego, El Cajon, Vista) and can serve as a satellite office where attorneys can conduct free legal research, have a quiet space to work, meet with clients in private conference rooms, hold meetings and attend free and low-cost educational programs.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION

r_2 The San Diego County Bar Association is the region’s oldest and largest law-related organization with its headquarters in downtown San Diego.The SDCBA aims to support and inform the county’s lawyers, but also the public and the community.It has programs to help clients find qualified lawyers, resolve disputes and educate San Diegans on their legal rights and responsibilities.

SUPERIOR COURT OF CALIFORNIA

r_3 The Superior Court in San Diego County is part of the California trial court system, which is the largest of its kind in the world with 58 trial courts throughout the state (one in each county). San Diego is the second largest court system in the state.Simple case information can be found online.

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT

r_4 The United States District Court, Southern District of California, is located in downtown San Diego. All federal cases in the district are filed and maintained here, including bankruptcy files.
