SDPA Pro Bono Committee Chair Invites you to volunteer your time for the San Diego Clean Slate Clinic!

san diego clean slate

The San Diego Clean Slate Clinic assists clients through the criminal record expungement process. Expungement can have a significant impact on a person’s employment rights, public housing, and public benefits. We are looking for law students and community members to staff the clinic. Under the supervision of attorneys, volunteers conduct client intake, assess client eligibility for expungement, assist clients with drafting declarations, and provides clients with legal information after consultation with a staff attorney. The clinic offers volunteer law students an opportunity to gain practical legal skills while helping San Diego’s low income community. This is excellent experience to add to your resume and great way to give back to your community.

Volunteer training is usually provided on the 1st Friday of the month (the day before the clinic). If you’ve contacted us about volunteering, we’ll send you the date and time of when training will be held that month.Trainings are held at:

Thomas Jefferson School of Law
1155 Island Avenue
San Diego, CA 92101
*parking is complimentary with RSVP*

The training will cover the clinic process and review the statutory laws related to expungements. Attending a training session prior to volunteering is not required, but it is strongly recommended.

What to expect:

We appreciate everyone’s efforts in volunteering. As a volunteer, you provide access to justice for our clients that they would otherwise not receive. Clinic are held from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and volunteers are asked to arrive at 9:00 A.M on the morning of the clinic. An informal training is held in the hour before we begin seeing clients.
