FEDERAL CIVIL PRACTICE SEMINAR
The annual seminar is dedicated to the memory of District Judge Judith N. Keep, who served as a United States District Judge in the Southern District of California for over twenty years, and as the District’s first female Chief Judge from 1991 to 1998.
This year’s seminar will include the following panels:
THE PROCESS OF DECIDING MOTIONS
Featuring: Barry Ted Moskowitz, Chief Judge, Southern District of California; Dana M. Sabraw, U.S. District Judge; Gonzalo P. Curiel, U.S. District Judge; Nita L. Stormes, U.S. Magistrate Judge (Moderator); and Christopher Latham, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge
The panel will discuss the process of deciding motions as well as what they find are the most persuasive aspects of your briefing and argument.
RULES UPDATE: DISCOVERY AND CASE MANAGEMENT
Featuring: Jan M. Adler, U.S. Magistrate Judge and William V. Gallo, U.S. Magistrate Judge
A review of the upcoming changes to Civil Rules 1, 4, 16, 26, 34 and 37 and their impact on practice in the Southern District.
EXPERT WITNESSES-DAUBERT AND BEYOND
Featuring: Marilyn L. Huff, U.S. District Judge; Cathy Ann Bencivengo, U.S. District Judge; M. James Lorenz, U.S. District Judge; and Mitchell D. Dembin, U.S. Magistrate Judge
The panel will discuss the when, how and why of Daubert motions, and other issues concerning expert witnesses.
