“You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give” ? Winston Churchill. As a follower of this philosophy, Nancy has been a committed volunteer with many organizations, including Special Olympics, the Parent Teacher Organizations at her children’s schools, the Space Coast Soccer Club where she was a board member, and she has volunteered with both the Cubs Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America. Nancy’s recent volunteer experiences are with the San Diego Paralegal Association, North County Superior Court, and the Clean Slate Clinic.
In 2013, Nancy joined San Diego Paralegal Association, and has since become a dedicated volunteer with the association. When the North County Chair position became available mid-year 2013, the board asked her to accept the position and she was happy to serve in that capacity for almost two terms. In 2015, her goals as the North County Chair were to continue to provide thought-provoking and relevant MCLE’s for our North County members at interesting venues, as well as hosting mixers with networking opportunities, in addition to organizing activities that get people together and moving in order to foster work-life balance. In 2015, Nancy also accepted the position of North County Bar Liaison, in an effort to promote SDPA to the North County Bar members. April of 2015 found the board seeking to fill the position of Vice President of Programs and Education as that position was unexpectedly open and the Executive Committee asked Nancy to step into that position for the remainder of the year. This required a board motion and the motion carried unanimously.
“I admit it was a challenge trying to fill all three-board positions, and I am grateful that the job duties of North County Chair and those of VP of Programs and Education overlapped at times.”
January of 2016 found Nancy with one board position, that of Vice President of Programs and Education. “I love the planning aspects involved with organizing the Continuing Legal Education programs, from finding speakers, securing venues and finding sponsors to host the dinner portion of the event.” It has been an incredible two years serving as VP of Programs and Education, we have offered some very interesting CLE’s, at unique venues, for members and non-members alike. I am looking forward to serving on the board as a director for another year! In her free time Nancy enjoys hiking, making jewelry, metalsmithing, traveling and spending time with her sons.
