2017 Awards Criteria

1) Sponsor of the Year Award
Purpose: The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding achievements of a current SDPA Sustaining Member (individual or company) who has made a difference in the Paralegal profession, for the Paralegal Association or in the San Diego legal community.

Criteria: Outstanding service by a member of the legal profession over a substantial period of time in promoting and encouraging diversity within the legal profession or the legal community. Outstanding long term or significant contribution to furthering the goals of the legal profession and promoting ethics, integrity, and professionalism in the practice of law by legal education, civics education, mentoring, or service to SDPA. Nominee must be a current member of SDPA. SDPA Board of Directors are not eligible for nomination. The Awards Committee reserves the right to consider the nomination in the category it deems most appropriate.

2)      Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year Award
Purpose: The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding achievements of a current SDPA Member who has made a difference in the Paralegal profession or in their communities with their volunteer work. The SDPA Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding volunteer whose unselfish and dedicated service to SDPA has made a significant difference and mirrors the commitment to success in the legal profession. This recognition is designed to inspire and motivate, as well as to celebrate who paralegals are and what paralegals have accomplished.

Criteria: Nominee must be a current member of SDPA. SDPA Board of Directors are not eligible for nomination. The Awards Committee reserves the right to consider the nomination in the category it deems most appropriate.

3)     Outstanding Law Firm of the Year
Purpose: SDPA would like to recognize a Law Firm or In-house Law Firm that has aided the San Diego Paralegal Association in meeting its mission of developing, strengthening, and advancing the paralegal profession. If you know of an organization or firm that embodies these qualities and meets the eligibility criteria outlined below, please nominate them today for consideration.

Criteria: Selection will be based on the nominee’s measurable impact on the legal community, community outreach, support for SDPA, participation in SDPA sponsored outreach programs, activities and partnerships, and/or aiding SDPA in its mission. The nominee’s measurable efforts to support and grow their paralegals professionally. The nominee must do business in San Diego County.

4)      Making a Difference Award
Purpose: The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding achievements of a current SDPA Member who has empowered others to take the initiative to make a difference in the community, examples of this, but not limited to, passionately being involved with a purpose that breaks down barriers for women, people of color, people with disabilities or of sexual orientation. This recognition is designed to inspire and motivate, as well as to celebrate who paralegals are and what paralegals have accomplished.

Criteria: Outstanding contribution by an individual whose contributions over a period of time have had a significant favorable impact on some facet of the legal system or legal community or civics education. Nominee must be a current member of SDPA. SDPA Board of Directors are not eligible for nomination. The Awards Committee reserves the right to consider the nomination in the category it deems most appropriate.
