San Diego June Paralegal Day 2011
The San Diego Paralegal Association reached out to Mayor Jerry Sanders to officially proclaim June 22, 2011 as Paralegal Day for the City of San Diego!
The June 2011 Paralegal Day Luncheon kicked off at noon on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, with SDPA’s President, Kristine Custodio, wishing everyone in attendance a Happy Paralegal Day. Immediately following the welcome message, Charles Eschnaur, a representative from Mayor Jerry Sander’s office, officially proclaimed June 22 as Paralegal Day in San Diego.
This year’s Paralegal Day Luncheon took place at the Marina Village Conference Center. From our location in the spacious Bayview Room, the windows opened up to a dazzling view of the Quivira Basin and the many boats parked in its marina.
The keynote speaker for the event was District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, who is very active in the San Diego community. She began her speech by eliciting laughs, saying, “I love coming to visit with you because I feel like you’re my peeps!” DA Dumanis made this statement because of her long history with paralegals and the legal environment in general. She told us how she began her career, as a Clerk Typist in the DA’s office. She also worked as a Paralegal, which at the time was called Investigative Assistant. Continuing her climb up the ladder to her present role as District Attorney, Bonnie Dumanis has followed the challenging road to success.
The luncheon was a successful event, providing Paralegals with the opportunity to celebrate their day, network, listen to guest speakers, and possibly win a prize from the raffle. Happy Paralegal Day!
